My first steps at music.

When it comes to music I think nearly, if not everyone has a big thing for music. It reminds us of good times, bad times, childhood, are feeling at a certain time and what we want for the future etc.

Music to me brings us together in a way because it allows opinions to be discussed and we can see are similarities/ differences in taste of music...I which I love the idea because pfft how boring would it be if we all listened to the same stuff and didn't have differences. I am glad to say that me and my friends have a total mix of opinion and with are different ways, we have educated each other. Thus increasing are taste! "Don't knock it, till you've tried it' - would be a good phrase to use in this situation.

Okaaaaay, I know I've went totally of the topic of my title so I'll get back on!

My biggest influence when it comes to music would probably be my Uncle Simon and my dad. My parents divorced when I was 2 so I only saw my dad on weekends but the best part of that weekend was the trips back and forth in the car. In the car my dad would play The Beatles albums (which is my favourite band) and I would just sit there smiling and singing along. NOW there probably isn't a Beatles song I don't know and after 17 years now I haven't stopped. Some other stuff my dad would play was disco music with classics like 'Car Wash' and 'Play that funky music'. As I got older my dad started playing such artists as Thin Lizzy, Elvis, The Jam and Sex Pistols which I very much enjoy as of today.
When I was going through my rough teenage years of confusion and unexplained rage my uncle Simon became a saviour by giving me his tapes (Yessss tapes, we remember tapes) of Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and most importantly Guns N' Roses. The Aerosmith and Bon jovi tapes were just greatest hits which were great and I sang along to but the Guns N' Roses tapes just blew my face off. The tapes were the albums 'Lies' and the 'Spaghetti Incident' which after a while I almost religiously listened to everyday and was amazed at the energy the whole band gave off and the guitar playing from Now one of my biggest inspirations....Slash!
After hearing the two tapes I decided to go to the nearest CD shop and buy some more albums; thus finding 'Appetite For Destruction' which is now one of THE best albums I've ever heard!
At this time of unstoppable rockin', my uncle gave me some albums to listen to as he could see my hunger becoming greater!
The albums were The Doors: Absolutely Live and Jimi Hendrix: The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The Doors are a big thing to me still and I listen to Jim Morrison: American Prayer nearly everynight (I know, get a life) but I love them.
My uncle Simon still today shows me new bands and keeps my mind thinking even if he doesn't realise it and has pushed me a lot when it comes to broadening my mind man!

One other thing I grew up on as a child was Michael Jackson and love his music and his voice. I don't know how I started listening to him but it must just be a 'everyone has heard him' things. I still try to dance like him and reach his standards in singing but sadly fail but I won't stop trying.

In my today world music still is a huge factor in my life and it has helped me through break-ups, break downs, my guitar playing, my singing and anything else I think of! Instead of just listening to old rock music which was most of my life, I know listen to a lot of rap music ( I love Jay Z and Lupe Fiasco) and a lot of singer/songwriter stuff like Bon Iver and Bob Dylan. You could say the rage has gone and now I'm soft.

Ok! I think I've talked enough about it and could go on and on but I will talk about something more interesting in a future date!

-Peace-
